for the Music & Book Sale
The primary purpose of Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i is to maintain free public libraries in the State of Hawai‘i, to promote the extension of library services throughout the State of Hawai‘i, and to increase the facilities of the Hawai‘i State Public Library System by securing materials beyond the command of the ordinary library budget.
To enrich the cultural opportunities available to all the people of Hawai‘i.

The State does not provide funding for programs. Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i (FLH) is the primary funding source for Statewide library programs. Our Affiliates Program fosters the growth of affiliated local Friends who fund programs at their branch libraries.
Together, FLH, local Friends, and our Sponsors, provide for enriching programs and events @ your library!
In addition, FLH promotes literacy through facilitating book buying for library branches through the Makana Akamai - Gift of Knowledge - Program. Individuals and corporations can donate funds to the branch(es) of their choice for the purchase of books and media in a certain category(ies), or just leave it to the librarians to choose!
Through our work to re-use the hundreds of thousands of book & media donations each year, our Book Sales are another program to provide book recycling and accessible (affordable) books & media to our community. In addition to our book sales, FLH works to recycle unsaleable material to other non-profits or local paper recyclers.
While our book sales do raise funds for our mission, they are also a program for getting books back into our community. Our Links to Literacy golf tournament is a fundraiser allowing us to engage our local and the greater business community to support programming and greater opportunity at the libraries. Each Fall, “Links” takes place as one of the premier non-profit tournaments in the State.
