The Public Librarian of the Year (LOTY) Award and the Excellence in Service (EIS) Award, presented by Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i, honor an outstanding librarian and staff persons. Nominations are submitted by library patrons. The nomination form can be found in your local library. On the form, patrons are asked to describe what makes each nominee stand out. For the Librarian of the Year, the nominee must stand out amongst the many dedicated librarians through the Hawai‘i State Public Library System. The Excellence in Service nominees are among the public library support service employees who brighten your day and exhibit exemplary service. |

The winners are chosen by a LOTY/EIS Committee made up of FLH volunteers. These dedicated volunteers compile nominations and conduct interviews of all candidates over a period of months. In the end, one Librarian of the Year and two Excellence in Service Award winners are chosen. The awardees are presented with their awards and funds for their library branch at the Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i Annual Meeting, held in February each year.
