FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY OF HAWAII
GUIDELINES FOR LIBRARIES
MATERIALS TO BE PRICED AND PACKED FOR THE BOOKSALE

The Friends are grateful for all materials which are sent to us, however, we find that some materials received have little sales potential. We would be very grateful if such materials could be packed separately and marked “SALEABLE?” That would allow us to do a quick evaluation and move on to the next item.

The following types of material have little or no sales potential:

POOR PHYSICAL CONDITION
§ Mutilated materials, including items with broken spines, loose pages, hi-lighted passages
§ Materials with brittle pages or excessive discoloration
§ Books (including paperbacks) with torn or mutilated covers
§ Any materials which are moldy, dirty or infested with insects (Use the rule of thumb—if you would not want it in your house, probably no one else would either!)

SUBJECTS
§ Textbooks, encyclopedias, medical and law books more than five years old
§ Magazines more that 2 years old. HOWEVER, IF THEY ARE HAWAIIAN OR PACIFIC SUBJECTS OR NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC WE WANT TO EVALUATE EACH ONE
§ Travel books more than 10 years old unless they have lots of pictures or appear to have literary value. IF THEY COVER HAWAII OR THE PACIFIC, WE WANT TO SEE THEM

REMEMBER THAT WE WOULD ALWAYS LIKE TO HAVE HAWAIIANA AND PACIFICANA MATERIALS, REGARDLESS OF CONDITION. THEY ARE PRIME MONEY-MAKERS!

Donations can be made at the Friends of the Library of Hawaii, 690 Pohukaina Street, Honolulu, HI during the hours of 10am ~ 2pm Mondays ~ Friday except on state holidays & library furlough days.
