Volunteers Needed!

"You give but little when you give of your possessions.  It is when you give of yourself that you truly give."  ~ Kahlil Gibran

Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i would not exist without the hundreds of volunteers who volunteer their time as much as daily to as little as one-day-a-year! Volunteer Opportunities with FLH include:

  • Warehouse Volunteers
  • Bookmobile Volunteers
  • Annual Book Sale Volunteers
  • January Book Sale Volunteers
  • Links to Literacy Volunteers
  • and many more. . .

All proceeds from the efforts of our volunteers go to the support of the State of Hawai‘i's 50 Public Libraries. FLH receives hundreds of thousands of books, records, CD's, magazines, etc. per year. All of this inventory must be sorted, managed, priced, and sold. The hard work and dedication of our volunteers enables the Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i to exist and to provide the State library system with support and a community voice!

Our volunteers enjoy the company of other civic minded and book-loving people. FLH volunteers include those employed or previously employed in academia & education, libraries, government, music, book retail and other areas. To the right is a photo from the FLH "Year-round Volunteer Holiday Tea." Other volunteer events include the awarding of the "Volunteer of the Year" at the FLH Annual Meeting, and the "Volunteer Luncheon" for all year-round volunteers.
